What's New?

  • The next scheduled election is May 4th, 2021. 
  • The only item on the ballot is a Northville Public Schools Millage Renewal.

  • While Township Hall is closed to the public due to Covid-19 precautions, the Clerk's Office remains open for visits by residents BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. (8am - 4:30pm M-F).
  • The Clerk’s Office continues to process voter registrations and applications for Absentee Ballots via the drop box, postal mail, email, and drive-thru window open (8am - 4:30pm M-F). 

 

Election / Voting Information

Absentee Voter Ballot Information 

·         Applications for Absentee Ballots for the May 4th election (School Millage Renewal) were mailed to everyone on the Permanent Absentee voter List (PAL) on February 18th.

  •  If you enroll on the Permanent Absentee voter List (PAL), the Clerk’s Office will automatically mail you an Application for Absentee Ballot for each election.

    • You must complete the Application in order to receive an Absentee Ballot.
  • Any registered voter is eligible to obtain an Absentee Ballot for the upcoming election. Click here for an Application for Absentee Ballot, or contact the Clerk's Office at 248-348-5825.
    • If you provide your email on the Application for Absentee Ballot, the Clerk’s office will notify you via email when your Application is received, when your Absentee Ballot is mailed to you, and when your Absentee Ballot is received.
      • You can also check your Voter Information, Registration and Ballot Status on the State of Michigan QVF here: https://vote.michigan.gov/Voter/Index
      •  Note that this site may take a few days to update.
    • Absentee Ballots for the May 4th election will be made available or mailed beginning on March 20th, 2021 to all who have completed the Application.
Important Election Dates and Deadlines
  • The deadline to request an Application for Absentee Ballot by mail is the Friday prior to the Election. 
    • Note that the Clerk’s Office must receive the completed Application for Absentee Ballot by 5:00pm on the Friday prior to the Election.
  • The last day to request an Absentee Ballot in person at the Clerk’s Office is the Monday prior to the Election between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00 pm.  In this case, you are required to vote your ballot at the Clerk’s Office, a voter is not permitted to leave the office with the Ballot.

Election Day Information
  • The polls are open from 7am – 8pm.
  • Historically, 7 - 9am and 6 – 8pm are the busiest times.
  • You must be in line, with an application to vote by 8pm.
  • Precinct Voting locations remain the same.  
  • Precinct Inspectors and local Clerks do NOT have the authority to keep the polls open past 8pm.
  • Absentee Ballots must be received at the Clerk’s Office by 8pm.
  • Bring your photo I.D.  or be prepared to complete an affidavit that you are not in possession of your photo I.D. You may vote without photo I.D. by completing the affidavit.

Voter Registration Information

Voters may register to vote by mail, in person at Township Hall, online at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/RegisterVoter or in person at a Secretary of State Office until 15 days prior to each election. 

OR, register in person at the Clerk’s Office from 14 days before each election until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day. 

Proof of Identification: Voters who register to vote in person at the Clerk’s Office during the 14 days prior to the election, including on Election Day, must show proper identification or sign an affidavit of identity. Proper identification includes:

  • Driver’s license or personal identification card issued by the State of Michigan or another state
  • Federal or state government- issued photo identification
  • U.S. passport
  • Military identification card with photo
  • Student identification with photo from high school or an accredited institution of high education
  • Tribal identification card with photo

Proof of residency: Voters who register to vote in person with township clerk during the 14 days prior to the election, including on Election Day, must show proof of residency such as a valid Michigan Driver’s License or Personal ID with the current residential address.

- Other documents that may be accepted for proof of residency include:

  • A current utility bill with the applicant’s name and address
  • A bank statement with the applicant’s name and address
  • A paycheck with the applicant’s name and address
  • A government check with the applicant’s name and address
  • Other government documents with the applicant’s name and address 

Clerk's Office Duties

Michigan State law requires the Township Clerk to carry out three major responsibilities involving record-keeping, financial operations, and administration of elections and voter information for the Township and Northville School District.   The Clerk's Office plays a critical role in the operation and administration of township government.

  • The Clerk is a member of the Township Board of Trustees, voting on questions of budget, personnel appointments, zoning, and other matters.
  • The Clerk’s Office acts as Secretary to the Board of Trustees (BoT) by posting legal notices, preparing the agendas and recording the minutes of BoT meetings. 
  • The Clerk chairs the Board of Election Commission for the township.
  • The Clerk’s Office keeps all the official records of the Township, including contracts, Bid Openings (RFP), Business Registrations, Homeowner Association Directory, etc.
  • The Deputy Clerk acts as the Township’s Freedom of Information (FOIA) coordinator.
  • The Clerk administers the Oath of Office to Township officials, Police, sworn personnel and appointees to Boards & Commissions. 
  • The Deputy Clerk provides Notary services for the Township.
  • The Clerk’s Office is the primary contact for resident questions.
