Water Restrictions
Voluntary Outdoor Water Use Restrictions in Effect
Northville
Township's new water supply contract with the Detroit Water and
Sewerage Department (DWSD) provides for a significant incentive to
reduce our water use during peak times and subsequently minimize
future increases in water rates. Therefore we are requesting all
customers limit their irrigation to nighttime hours, between the
hours of 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM.
In addition, we ask residents to voluntarily limit outdoor water
usage to odd/even days. Residents and businesses with odd numbered
addresses (i.e. ending in 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) are asked to use outdoor
water only on odd numbered dates. Likewise, those with even numbered
addresses (i.e. 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8) should water lawns, fill swimming
pools, wash cars, etc., only on even numbered dates. Homeowner
associations are also asked to restrict watering their common areas to
every other day. Residents should be aware that many public areas,
such as parks, golf courses, etc., receive irrigation water from ponds
which are independent of the public water system.
The Township's cost to purchase water from DWSD is the fifth
highest out of 87 community customers. Although our elevation and
distance from the water treatment plants contribute to this high cost,
our pattern of use is also a major factor, and one that we can modify.
Northville Township would like to thank all of our residents and
businesses in advance for their cooperation in ensuring the overall
reliability and economy of our public water system, by adhering to
these voluntary restrictions. If residents or business owners have any
questions regarding the requested water use restrictions they can call
Northville Township’s Department of Public Services staff at (248)
348-5820.
