House Checks
During the summer months, the Northville Township Police Department will check on your residence while you are on vacation. During other months, you may notify us of your vacation plans. This will assist us in contacting you in the event of an emergency. You may stop in at the front desk and complete a house check form, or you may call 248-349-9400 and advise the dispatcher. You may complete the accompanying online form and forward it to us.
Operation Identification
Northville Township Police Department will loan you an electric engraver for up to 72 hours so you may engrave your driver's license number and two letter state abbreviation code on your valuables. We will even supply you with an inventory form so you may have a record of what you have engraved. If you have an engraver, use the accompanying inventory form to record your valuables. Once you engrave your valuables, we will provide you with Operation Identification stickers that you may place in your windows to inform thieves your property is marked.
Homeowner's Association/Community Groups
If you need someone to speak to your group regarding crime prevention topics, contact Officer Michael Burrough at: (248) 349-9400 or contact him by email.

Security Surveys

A security survey is "a critical on-site examination and analysis of a home,... or business to ascertain the present security status, to identify weaknesses or excesses, to determine the protection needed, and to make recommendations to improve the overall security."

The time required to complete the survey varies based on the site to be surveyed and the security desires of the occupant, e.g., a residence as opposed to a business or commercial establishment; the protection of property as opposed to protection of lives. After the site survey is completed, a narrative report is compiled which describes the location surveyed, noting security strengths and weaknesses. The completed survey contains recommendations to improve security or to maintain the present conditions. Topics covered in a survey include; examination of doors, locks, windows, lighting, alarms, and landscaping; examination of security procedures; and safety tips.

Surveys are scheduled on a first-come basis.  As a general guideline, for every hour the crime prevention officer spends conducting the survey, he will spend approximately three to four hours preparing the narrative report. A copy of the report will be provided to the homeowner or proprietor and all surveys are confidential.
