Attention Voters – effective immediately – 11/26/07
Absentee Ballots Must be Requested
You must “request” an Absentee ballot for ALL future Elections
conducted by the Township
- As a courtesy to our voters, the township has mailed unsolicited
AV application forms to all registered voters over the age of 60,
for the past 25 years.
- A recent court case decision, in the City of Detroit, now
prohibits the practice and the clerk’s office has established a new
procedure that is permitted under election law.
- If you are interested in automatically receiving an APPLICATION
to request an Absentee Ballot, for all future elections, please
complete the PERMANENT ABSENTEE LIST (PAL) form by
clicking here, or we can
fax a form to you, or request the form by phone or in person.
- Placement on the permanent absentee list (PAL) does not require
that you vote absentee in all elections. If you plan to vote in
person at your polling location, at any election, do not complete or
return the form.
We are sorry for any inconvenience to you in obtaining an absentee
ballot. The township is interested in making it as easy as possible
for eligible voters to cast a ballot in all elections. If you have any
questions, visit the clerk’s office or call (248) 348-5800, ext. 10201
or you can email the
clerk with any questions or if you need additional information.
Picture ID Required to Vote
Every Michigan voter who shows up to vote at the polls MUST show
picture identification, or sign an affidavit attesting that he or she
is not in possession of picture identification. EVERY voter will be
asked for PICTURE identification, regardless of whether or not you are
personally known by the precinct inspectors.
A ballot CANNOT be issued to a voter unless the voter provides
picture identification or signs the affidavit. Elections for 2008
include: January 15th, February 26th (not confirmed), May 6th, August
5th and November 4th.
Acceptable photo identification includes:
- Driver’s license or personal identification card issued by
another state.
- Federal or state government-issued photo identification.
- U.S. passport.
- Military identification card with photo.
- Student identification with photo from high school or an
accredited institution of higher education.
- Tribal identification card with photo.
If you have any questions on the implementation of this law, please
contact the Clerk’s Office at 248-662-0541 or
via email.
