Required Building Applications, Planning Reviews &
Permits
The Building Division would like to remind you that home
improvement projects require one or more building applications,
planning reviews and permits. Some of the more common projects
requiring permits include:
Additions or Alterations
Basement Finishing
Installation of Air conditioners
New Repair of Drives or Sidewalks
New or Re-roofing
Fences (check your subdivision regulations)
Window Replacement
Decks or Gazebos
Concrete Patios
Installation of Landscape Sprinklers
Siding or Residing
Pools
You must apply for your building permit from the Building Division.
This will take 10 to 15 business days if no corrections are required.
If you must make corrections, approval will require an additional 3 to
5 days.
Many of these permit applications can be downloaded from our
Form, Permits and Publications page if you
click here. If you have any questions whether your improvements
need a permit or not, call the Building Division at (248) 348-5830. If
you have questions about a potential contractor call the Better
Business Bureau and the Michigan Department of Consumer & Industry
Services (517) 241-9363.
